now that the presidential results are out– for the love of whatever, don’t berate people for coping with humor. what else should they do? people are devastated, people don’t feel safe anymore. let them do as they need to.

also, don’t yell at people who cope by not posting about it. don’t yell at the people who cope by continuing their usual routine centered around the things that make them happy to think/talk about. this is seriously fucking scary, and disconnecting in order to collect yourself is not the same thing as turning a blind eye. and it isn’t like anyone in (or even out of) the states can truly “ignore this” anyways. regardless, take care of yourself before anyone else.

Things you should consider doing before Trump becomes president

chicaner:

-Get any doctor’s appointment taken care of if you have Obamacare
-Take advantage of any student loan forgiveness if you can
-Get an IUD if you need birth control
-Legally change your name if you’re trans
-Get a passport
-Save up your money

We have little under two months until the presidency changes over. Take advantage of your rights while you have them. Please feel free to add onto this post, these are the only things I can think of right now.

Last night was incredibly depressing, so I just want to take a moment to highlight some good results from states across the country:

  • Kate Brown because the first openly LGBT person to win a governor’s race in the US. She’s bisexual and she won Oregon.
  • Maine, Arizona, Colorado, and Washington all voted to increase the state minimum wage to at least $12 an hour by 2020.
  • California, Nevada, and Massachusetts legalized recreational marijuana. Florida, Arkansas, and North Dakota legalized medical marijuana,
  • Arizona voters ousted sheriff Joe Arpaio, who was a bigot and total asshole.

As bad as things look, remember that in a federalist system, a lot of your rights are also protected at the state level. Now would be a good time to start paying more attention to state politics.
